Under the resolution countries agreed to start monitoring the amount of plastic they put into the ocean and to explore ways to make it illegal to dump waste in the seas.

Much more can be done

Plastic use has increased 20-fold in the past 50 years and is expected to double again in the next 20 years. If we’re to stop the world’s ocean becoming a lifeless garbage dump then we will need governments across the world to get tough and pass legislation banning single-use plastics.

Blue Planet Society are campaigning to get single-use plastic bans enacted across the globe.
